Melissa Winkelmann
My name is Melissa Winkelmann, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapy intern completingmy graduate training at Abilene Christian University. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Houston and hold a certification in Nonprofit Leadership.
Before entering the therapy field, I worked in Montessori education for 16 years, primarily withchildren in their first plane of development (birth to six years) while partnering closely with their families. This experience deeply shaped how I understand relationships, attachment, andthe importance of feeling safe, seen, and supported, especially during life’s earliest and most vulnerable seasons. I carry this developmental and relational lens with me into the therapy room.
As a therapist-in-training, I work under the close supervision of Elisa Squier, which allows me to provide thoughtful, ethical, and well-supported care. I value curiosity, empathy, and collaboration, and I strive to create a space where clients feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are, without judgment or pressure. I believe meaningful change happens through authentic connection, and I view therapy as a partnership built on trust, respect, andcompassion.
My clinical interests include maternal mental health, couples and parenting, grief and bereavement, and attachment. I amespecially passionate about supporting individuals and families as they navigate transitions, identity shifts, and relational changes across the lifespan. If you are a new parent or caregiver noticing unexpected emotions, shifts in your sense of self, or changes in your relationships, you are not alone. Many people find this season both meaningful and challenging, and it can help tohave a space where all of those experiences are welcome. If you feel I may be a good fit for you or your family, I invite you to reach out. I would behonored to walk alongside you and support you in this season.
